Stress-Free Travel Planning Tips
Planning a trip is one of my favorite parts of a trip. For me, it helps build anticipation and excitement as I research a new place. Having a trip planned out ahead of time, allows me to be truly present on my trip and more open to spontaneity. Going into my trip with a guide of valuable places to check out ensures I don’t waste precious time exploring disappointing restaurants and activities. I like to get the most out of my trips and set myself up for a great experience.
Important Information
I have a system for planning my trips that I have found to be successful. I start with collecting the basics so that I have an easy cheat sheet with all my travel info in one place. I added my flight information if applicable, and my sleeping arrangement info. I look up the typical temperatures of that time.
Research
Next, is the fun research! I like to go to Pinterest first and read blogs on traveling to that particular area. I collect restaurants mentioned, sites to see, and other tips.
After I have searched the internet for recommendations, I review the places on Yelp. I like to see pictures of restaurants and look at menus. Once the recommendations have made it through that filter, I save them to a collection on Yelp or create a Google guide with all the hot spots. I also document them in my planning sheet to print and take with me.
Schedule
I then start to map out a loose schedule. I add any already set or booked events, such as weddings, family dinners, scheduled tours, etc. Then, I add any major things I want to prioritize on the trip. I leave room for flexibility and bring my list to pull ideas from.
I find this process has helped me leave for my trip less stressed and more excited. Once I’m there, I know I have a list of great places to rely on if I’m feeling stuck on what to do next. I always return from my travels feeling satisfied that I made the most of my travels.
