Jacumba Hot Springs
Relaxing Vacation Spot
Jacumba Hot Springs (pronounced Ha-cumba) is a new hotel that just opened up south of the San Diego area. It looked like a relaxing getaway so my husband and I decided to check it out to celebrate Valentine’s Day. We checked in at the airstream outside the hotel gates and were greeted with a warm beverage.
If you are looking for a weekend retreat to recharge and disconnect, this may be the place for you!
The Hotel
The hotel sits in a very small town next to the Mexican border. It really feels like it’s in the middle of nowhere which may be what you are looking for if you want to get away from the hustle of daily life. One of the biggest draws of this location is the natural hot springs which are said to have healing properties. The hotel also doubles as a music venue.
The hotel is located along Highway 80 in the Sonoran Desert, about an hour outside of San Diego. The owners of the hotel are interior designers and it shows! There are so many thoughtful details throughout the hotel and it gives off a Moroccan and Mexican vibe. The hotel has 20 artisan rooms, three mineral pools, a restaurant, and a bar.
Note: You can purchase a day pass to soak in the pool without staying at the hotel.
The Room
For our stay, we booked the Siren Suite 11. It was absolutely gorgeous! The room was huge and had a soaker tub and a shower with two shower heads. There were so many nice decorative details from the comfortable lounge couch to the beautiful hanging lanterns. The room included a bar, robe, slippers, and two cookies. My husband’s favorite detail was the record player which included two records that when played perfectly matched the vibe of the hotel.
The Food
The hotel has a restaurant on-site and you have a choice of ordering food from the pool area, your room, or visit the dining room. The restaurant itself has a lovely outdoor patio and an indoor dining room with a wall lined with desert oil paintings. We opted to grab dinner at the restaurant. We shared a mezza plate, a Caesar salad, and a chocolate cake. All of the food was delicious and they had a great selection of specialty cocktails. We also peeked into the bar which had a moody speakeasy vibe.
Self Care Rating
Overall, our experience was quite relaxing. We did visit the small Echo pool and left feeling a little sleepy but good. The room didn’t have a TV so we were able to take a break from screens and enjoy the record player. They had many healthy food options and there wasn’t really a lot to do outside of the hotel so we were forced to chill. I do think the hotel would benefit from adding spa services.
I highly recommend visiting this location for a romantic weekend or a girl’s getaway. It would also be a nice vacation if you were traveling solo!
